Contribute to Roth after filing taxes

I've already filed my taxes and received my tax return for 2012. I understand you can still contribute to your IRA until the April 15th deadline. I've searched the forums and I keep seeing that its ok to make the contribution. I'm confused though because I thought that contribution are reported to t...

Re: Building Emergency Fund within Roth IRA

Just a question on VCSH. At my brokerage firm it would cost me $8 per transaction for this ETF. It looks like this fund has an average duration of 3 years. I pulled up another short term corportate bond fund that also has a duration of three years: THOPX. 5 star rated. http://finance.yahoo.com/q/pm?...

Re: Building Emergency Fund within Roth IRA

I don't see how your situation varies much at all from the wiki. I'm a big fan of "holding" Roth space in this way, and I think your plan sounds great. I just scanned the wiki but it looked like this was talking about how to transition an emergency fund from taxable to Roth, whereas in my...

Building Emergency Fund within Roth IRA

I've read this wiki link about one way to use your Roth as an emergency fund. http://www.bogleheads.org/wiki/Roth_IRA_as_an_emergency_fund My situation is a little different then the one described in the wiki link above. I'm married, no kids, my wife and I are both 25. I am currently saving up to th...

Refinancing Home Loans

I bought a condo a year ago. We did 100% financing using an FHA loan and a Utah State Housing loan, which I realize may have not been ideal. I have 2 30-year loans on my condo: Mortgage: $157,633 - Rate: 3.99% 2nd Loan- $9,415 - Rate: 5.99% Principal and Interest on 1st loan: $765.17 Escrow Payment:...

What is the definition of Roth contributions?

Lets say I contribute $1000 into a Roth IRA, and that $1000 goes down to $100, due to a bad investment. If I then contribute $500 to my Roth and that grows to $1000, am I allowed to withdraw the now $1100 tax free because I technically had $1500 of contributions? Or would this be considered growth a...

Re: Build "three fund" portfolio using ishares

I'm taking that advice of this site and trying to stick with the three asset classes stated above. I need to do this at Fidelity, and I only have around $1500 in this account. I could build a three fund portfolio with mutual funds but it It takes a minimum of $2500 per mutual fund at Fidelity.

Build "three fund" portfolio using ishares

I am trying to replicate the three fund portfolio using Fidelity's 30 commission free ishares. I realize that the expense ratios are a little higher. I want to mimic these three funds: Vanguard Total Stock Market (VTSMX) Vanguard Total International (VGTSX) Vanguard Total Bond Market (VBMFX) Here ar...

Use Roth IRA as Emergency Fund

I am using a 401k for my primary retirement savings. I'm currently taking full advantage of my companies match (100% match up to 7%). I currently make $50,000 a year and I am married. I only have a $1500 emergency savings fund, and I know I need to increase this to at least 3 months (about $12,500)....

Re: Help picking 401k funds

Do you recommend doing the emerging markets in conjunction with the other international fund? If I want 25% international, what % of emerging should I have?

Help picking 401k funds

First post here I'm trying to see how I can best implement the three-fund portfolio in my companies 401k plan. The three funds suggested by this site are: Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund (VTSMX) Vanguard Total International Stock Index Fund (VGTSX) Vanguard Total Bond Market Fund (VBMFX) I in...
