PenFed Coverdell

I sent in an application for Coverdell ESA to Penfed. Took for ever for them to acknowledge that they have received it. After about 2 weeks of turning in the application, I see the money sitting in their Regular Share account. They apologized that they were behind because of the heavy influx of appl...

Re: How long did it take to transfer PenFed IRA from VG?

Sorry, I didn't intend to discount your experience. I was just wondering where the holdup was. If PenFed still hasn't gotten around to your application, then sure, you have a perfect right to be annoyed. But I would call if you haven't already -- maybe that second application is actually lost or mi...

Re: How long did it take to transfer PenFed IRA from VG?
I had absolutely no problems, and the whole thing was done in two weeks. What did each party say about your transfer? Do you know where the bottleneck is?
Good for you that it worked out well. Vanguard is yet to get the request for transfer from Penfed. I had sent 2 applications (Ro...

Re: How long did it take to transfer PenFed IRA from VG?

I sent in my application through USPS to Penfed on Jan 6th. It is a Roth IRA transfer from VG. On Jan 24th, I see 0 dollar balance Roth IRA account in Penfed. I could have walked from my home all the way to Nebraska and could have handed them the application before Jan 24...No trace of action in VG ...

Re: Updated opinions about Ally Bank?

Has anyone had recent experiences that might dissuade me from doing business with them? Or additional positive experiences? My relationship with Ally Bank has been great thus far. I am puzzled by folks having not-so-good experience with them. Personally, I would give top rating for them. However, I...

Re: Who is lump-summing a fund on January 2, 2014?

I assume it's something simple, like you use someone (can't be Vanguard) who allows you to schedule transactions at a specified future date. I tried to contribute for 2014 Roth IRA as well. Does not give me the option in Vanguard. I only see the screen which says that I have contributed the fully a...

Re: What to put into 401k and Roth IRA?
So start with your space first, then put things where they best fit. Bonds into 401k (then IRA, then Roth IRA), stocks everywhere else. Tax-efficient stock index funds can go in any kind of account, not just taxable. Trying to understand why Bonds should be put into IRA before Roth IRA. Any ...

Re: Which Bond Fund in this Rising Interest Rates environmen

Thanks all for your insight and providing valuable input. I have made my decision. My fixed income allocation is going to be split between Intermediate Bond Fund and I Bonds. Will try to keep that as close as possible to 50/50. Considering that I-Bonds have a cap of 10K/year, it could skew more towa...

Re: Who taught you about money?

All that my parents could brave out were the CDs. Anything beyond that is "risky" to them. I did not contribute to 401K for the first 3 years of my worklife. A colleague helped me understand that it is free money. I learned my first building blocks about money from http://www.bargaineering...

Re: CDs with Indian Banks?

I don't know much about Indian banks, but the reason I believe they pay high deposit rates is they are short of USD, and that is because there is risk. If we look at India right now (economic slump, end of a property bubble in many cities) we can see why. The market is afraid the banks won't pay ba...
