You can get a new 2014 Jetta Model S sedan, nicely equipped for about $18K. That would be with a 4 cylinder engine and 6 speed auto trans, A/C, PS, PB, PW, DL, etc. Or you could knock a grand off if you buy the manual transmission version.

1) I assume you also turned 70.5 in 2013. 70.5 determines the first RMD year, not 70. The soloK had no balance on 12/31/12 and therefore has no RMD requirement for 2013. One benefit of not having the insurance is you don't have the hassle of filing a claim and dealing with the insurance company. That alone is worth a lot since they try all kinds of tactics to beat you down.
