Re: Berkshire Tickets

Do the new B shareholders even get to be in the room? It used to be a very expensive ticket if you had to buy an A share, or even a B share. I've debated buying one B share just to get into the event once to see what it is all about, or is there a minimum investment to get a ticket? Whether you own...

Berkshire Tickets

How many can you sign up to receive?

I've always known the number to be four but I read that since the B share split the number has dropped to 2.

Is it 2 or 4? I've found reputable sources stating the same thing...

I'm not an owner but may become one.

Re: Help Cleanup My Taxable Account, Please

What livesoft suggests has to do with dividends. His suggestion will get most of the dividends into a tax sheltered account, which will save on taxes. The wiki has an article on a three fund portfolio. Take a look at it. It will show you how to develop a simple, well-diversified portfolio. Since yo...

Re: Help Cleanup My Taxable Account, Please

Do you want your international allocation to be extremely tax efficient? If so, then put VEA and VWO in taxable and put VSS in tax advantaged. VEA / VTMGX large-cap developed EAFE index (lacks large-cap Canada though) VWO / VEIEX large-cap emerging markets index VSS / VFSVX FTSE all-world ex-US sma...

Re: Which of These 3 Funds for Roth 401(k)?

Yes, I have more than my age in "fixed income".

@joe8d: I do not know if my employer has a T-401k option but I am not looking for bonds at the present time.

I haven't done my final assessment but I believe I will choose VINIX.

Which of These 3 Funds for Roth 401(k)?

I am looking for an equity fund to make up my entire Roth 401(k). Only about $7-8k. For equities outside my Roth 401(k), my portfolio consists of Vanguard Total Stock Market Admiral and Vanguard Total International Admiral. Which of these three Vanguard funds best compliment my current mix of equiti...

Re: What Happens to Credit Score When You Stop Using Credit?

I thought my comment about credit pulls may derail this topic... Really I just want to know what will happen to my credit since I don't use it for anything. Does it stay the same, get better, or get worse. I'm trying to satisfy my curiosity here, I'm not trying to get too scientific about it all. W...

What Happens to Credit Score When You Stop Using Credit?

My past: I borrowed money for college. As soon as the loan grace periods ended, I paid each loan off in full. This means once they started charging interest, I washed my hands of my debt. That is the only debt I have ever taken on. My Present: The closest I get to using credit card is running my de...

I planned my taxes for 2013. Unless I earn more this year than I expect, I won't have to pay any capital gains.

Re: How Can I Avoid the $95 Edward Jones Account Closing Fee

My Edward Jones advisor is out of town for the next 10 days on a "diversity trip". Sounds enlightening. I had his admin. assistant liquidate the funds and transfer them to my bank account. Once the transfer is complete (I was told 3-5 business days), I will bring the funds into my Vanguard...

Re: My Vanguard Portfolio! Criticism, Kudos Welcome!

I've been through 2001 and 2008 without wincing (small portfolio of course but as nedsaid, said...). I'm okay if I never actually withdraw much of this money in my entire lifetime so "losing" 50% in a day would not startle me. I will fill out the Investment Policy Statement worksheet on Mo...

My Vanguard Portfolio! Criticism, Kudos Welcome!

Mutual Funds: Why The Fantastic First Year?

When I look over mutual fund performance, it always seems like the first year produces 20%, even 30% gains. After year one, the fund never sees those levels again. What causes this initial spike in returns? It's always deceptive to read a prospectus highlighting a five-year return on a fund that's o...

Re: How Can I Avoid the $95 Edward Jones Account Closing Fee

I don't know whether polite asking would work, but I once got a closing fee refunded by writing a high-quality complaint letter to the CEO. My success rate on this sort of thing has been pretty good, and the key elements seem to be: ⋅ paper, mailed letter, not email, not telephone; ⋅...

How Can I Avoid the $95 Edward Jones Account Closing Fee?

At this point, I only have a few American Funds left at Edward Jones. Soon I will finish selling them and buying Vanguard funds instead. You may remember me from this thread: http://www.bogleheads.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=118936&p=1739046#p1739046 I called Edward Jones and they said the...

Re: I'm 23 and Doubting Whether I Should Keep American Funds

Just one additional consideration. If you have any fund shares in the taxable account that you have held less than one year, and you have a capital gain on those shares (and you probably would, because the market is up quite a bit), then you want to wait until you have owned them for at least a yea...

Thank you for all the replies! I am moving my Roth IRA to Vanguard once I am done ty...

Re: I'm 23 and Doubting Whether I Should Keep American Funds

Welcome to the forum! ✓ The money is split between a Roth IRA and a taxable account. The gains in the Roth IRA don't count. You will only pay tax on the gains in the taxable account. Definitely move the Roth. There may be an account closing fee. Just pay it. Also move the taxable account, but maybe...

I'm 23 and Doubting Whether I Should Keep American Funds....

I have more money than most of my peers because I have something called 'work ethic'. This lead me to begin investing at age 10 through a custodial account. In 2009 I began investing in American Funds through Edward Jones. Flash forward to present day and here are the American Funds and the total ga...
