Re: Is buying organic worth it financially in the long term?

I specifically buy organic to decrease the amount of pesticides I consume...especially when I am going to juice fruits/veggies since I don't peel the skin off.

Re: Dealing with pressure for "social donations" at work

I would not give anything. I hate when people ask me to contribute to some new cause at work like I am supposed to hand over money just because I am a physician. My money is allotted for other things and spending hundreds of dollars on gifts for people I barely know is not going to happen.

Re: Career Advice for an Unhappy Young Doctor?

Residency is miserable. The first year out of residency is hard. You question whether you really know what you are doing and at the same time need to figure out a new computer system and how things are done at your new hospital. It is super stressful. It gets better the second year though. Taking a week off every few months also helps. My plan is to pay down my student loans and my mortgage as soon as possible. Luckily, I don 't have expensive tastes and can live off of very little. Therefore, the majority of my paycheck goes towards my debt. After I am debt free, I don't really care what I do as long as it is not medicine. A career with the FDA would be great in terms of pay, but I would be ok with being a greeter at Walmart :) I was tryin...

Re: Air Purifier for Allergies

I bought 2 IQAir Purifiers about 2 months ago. I think they have helped a lot. I haven't had to take my allergy medicine for a few weeks. I initially bought the purifiers so that my cat-allergic mom could visit. She lasted longer in my house than usual and didn't get the typical throat closing sensation that she usually gets.

Re: roomba?

I had an old roomba (500 series I think). It was a piece of junk and I stopped using it as it got stuck every few minutes. What a waste of $500.

I just bought a new house and was looking for ways to keep the floors clean as my cats track litter everywhere. I bought the latest roomba (800 series) and love it. It rarely gets stuck, athough I do notice it dragging cords around, so I try to keep cords out of the way. In fact, I bought a second 800 series roomba for another floor. Hopefully these new roombas will last a few years as they are pretty expensive.

Re: Cheapest tablet for Skype/video chat?

I bought the latest kindle (I think it was called kindle fire hdx) so that I could use skype. It's always on (unlike my laptop), so I never miss any "calls". There is no data plan. My kindle is easy to use and much cheaper than an ipad. It seems durable enough.

I ended up staying with TT.
I did not find TaxAct as easy to use as TurboTax either. I only made the switch because I was fed up of waiting for TurboTax to let me submit my taxes (I guess they are still working on form 8960 - the net investment income form).

Info on Basis [Backdoor Roth IRA, Form 8606]

Anyone know of a good website which explains Basis and exactly how to complete tax forms when doing a backdoor Roth IRA? I just submitted my taxes using TaxAct, although I have a feeling I did something wrong as I don't understand how I have a basis when my Traditional IRA is now $0. I started doing backdoor Roth IRAs in 2012 and never contributed to an IRA prior to that. I am tempted to call an accountant, although it seems like a waste of money as the only form I need help with is 8606.
