Re: A couple thoughts for young accumulators

With regard to the domestic vs international equities, Rick Ferri had an article positing that 30% international was the sweet spot for risk-adjusted returns: http://www.rickferri.com/blog/investments/foreign-stocks-for-the-long-run/ Some food for thought. Not much to argue between 30% vs. 45% inter...

Buying ahead of dividend?

I don't see why there are so many tips on buying a fund after the dividend...don't you want the distribution? I know nobody wants to pay taxes, but this is free money, no? Or am I being ignorant of something? Situation: would like to buy some VTSAX/VTIAX in taxable account; some VGSIX in IRA account...

VTSAX vs VTI (mutual fund vs etf)

Anyone have a good set of features that differentiate between the two?

I don't need all-day tradability. ETFs have transaction costs as well. bid/ask spread too.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of etf's vs mutual funds?

My first steps are to get the international stock and total bond funds (I'm aiming for 10% bonds) purchased and balanced. Then I will worr...

Re: Suggestions for diversifying outside of VTSAX

Thanks for the info, very helpful. Will probably go core four (reit, vtsax, total interational stock, total bond).

Since I'm young I will weight the stock and REIT heavily compared to bonds.

Suggestions for diversifying outside of VTSAX

I have only one fund in Vanguard, just VTSAX. I would like to diversify into other mutual funds, low expense ratio, no load, in Vanguard. The three-fund portfolios say international stock and total bond funds are good complements to total stock market index funds. However, since interest rates can o...

Anyone have any idea when this is? More importantly, when the record date is?
