Re: Can I ask my employer to split a bonus?

All, Thanks a bunch for the variety of valuable input. I certainly will check out the donor fund wiki. That is something that I'm not even a little bit familiar with. Plenty of valuable advice for me to chew on. I wanted to make sure that my arithmetic was correct in calculating my AGI. I'm still ne...

Can I ask my employer to split a bonus?

Hi all - I continue to learn a great deal from this forum. As with all things, the more you learn the more you realize you don't know! Quick tax question - perhaps someone could point me to where to find the answer. I currently gross about $180K/year. This year I'm scheduled to receive a 60K bonus i...

Re: Are we on track for 33?

Thanks all! We plan to get organized so that all tax-advantaged accounts are opened and fully funded this year (still need to read about Roths and back-door contributions a bit...) Your Money Ratios by Charles Farrell has some interesting ideas on how to answer the question "Are we on track for...

Re: Are we on track for 33?

Thanks for the help. The information is empowering, to say the least. I'll do some more homework, <gulp> change my own allocations for the first time, and come back with more questions. Just to be clear, I shouldn't expect fees/penalties/taxes for changing from a Target Date Fund to low ER index fun...

Re: Are we on track for 33?

During that time you should also be able to max out two backdoor Roth IRAs and your 401k, plus an HSA if you have a HDHP. After that, every penny should go to the loans. With luck you'll be 35-36 years old, have maybe $200k in retirement, and only a very reasonable mortgage for your income. That's ...

Re: Are we on track for 33?

Novine - Thanks for the confirmation! I suspected as much. Duckie - Wow. Thanks for the thoughtful comments and advice! There's alot to go through with your recommendations. Firstly, I think I'd like a low ER% "lazy-style" portfolio, and I like your percentages. I still need to read up on...

Are we on track for 33?

Hi all. I'm a 33 year old family physician. I've been in practice for just over two years and have been trying to pay down ~$250K in med school loans aggressively over the past 2 years - should've been working on that in residency or not gotten in so deep in the first place!! Ahh, hindsight.... :oop...

Re: What was your 2012 return?

My 2012 return was 15.0% on a Fidelity Freedom 2045 target retirement date fund (85/15).

The expense ratio is listed as 0.63% ... how do I find out where that money went? (perhaps a more apt question for a different thread...)

Re: New Denver Local Chapter Coordinator

I'd be coming from north Colorado so I'd prefer a weekend if possible. I'm very excited to participate. I've learned a tremendous amount from the recommended reading list as well as a healthy amount of "forum-lurking".
Looking forward to it :D

Re: Term Life Insurance

If I may piggyback a question here... I'm 31 and looking at 20 year term policies. I have heard conventional wisdom (read "heresay") that you should buy a policy that pays 10-times your salary so that if you kick the bucket your loved ones can invest the lump sum and hopefully maintain the...
