Re: Bogleheads at their best.

Mike and Wilson: I am of the opinion that the advice you have received is better than what you would get from nearly all brokers and most advisers. It is the Bogleheads at their best. Best wishes. Taylor Hi Taylor! Yep, no doubt about it, I would not have even had the confidence to make the move ou...

Re: Help with my Investments!!! (just got out of Ameriprise

There is a difference between mid 6-figure (say $500,000) and mid $100K range (say $150,000). :)

Haha, always wishful thinking on my part! Lol..... total brain short-circuit on my part!

Thank you everyone for all of your help, I am working on getting this going ASAP....

Re: Help with my Investments!!! (just got out of Ameriprise

MikeAndWilson2012 , you want an AA of 60% stocks, 40% bonds (a little conservative), with unknown in international. I'm going to pick 30% of stocks in international. That breaks down to 42% US stocks, 18% international stocks, and 40% bonds. Here is a possible retirement portfolio: Joint Taxable at...

Re: Starting a New Chapter! Moving to VG....

Hi Everyone, I am Soooooo glad to finally be back here posting in this thread, and with happiness! So after about 7 months of a long, sometimes aggrivating process, I can officially say 100% of my former Ameriprise assets are 100% over to Vanguard. And wow did Ameriprise live up to their reputation ...

Re: Legal Question - Ameriprise Annuity

Need to put this in a separate reply! If no one really had the pleasure of seeing one of these Ameriprise Annuity Contracts/Information packets up close and personal. Here's a nice paragraph, I'm typing this in 100% verbatim from page 2/2 of this "Annuity Products Disclosure": The Compensa...

Re: Legal Question - Ameriprise Annuity

I hate Ameriprise so much. I was in a similar situation as you last year so I feel your pain. I moved all of my accounts at Ameriprise over to Vanguard with help from people here though. I didn't have a variable annuity, but I did have a variable life insurance policy with Ameriprise. In reading th...

Re: Legal Question - Ameriprise Annuity

I have helped people out of surrender fees successfully on several occasions by: 1. Writing a letter to the firm's compliance officer stating the client did not understand what they were buying (most compliance officers don't understand variable annuities!) 2. Request full transfer of funds with no...

Re: Legal Question - Ameriprise Annuity

Personally, I would liquidate before you move. More than likely the funds you have are expensive and you wouldn't want them anyways. Also, Vanguard probably can't hold them either. If Ameriprise transfers them to Vanguard or liquidates on a transfer, they will pop you with a 50 dollar charge for ea...

Re: Legal Question - Ameriprise Annuity

Ugh...I'm not trying to be rude, but man did you get sold. I'll spare you my rant since you understand the mistake and are rectifying it now without much damage. I'm sure there is a way to calculate correctly whether it makes sense to surrender based on fees alone. Someone smarter than me will be a...

Re: Legal Question - Ameriprise Annuity

Well, looks like I am really screwed with this Annuity, called into Riversource, they DO have my signature on file, and a copy of the folded up form that was sent in. She told me they re-send this pamphlet every 30-days, waiting for your signature. She did verify they cannot complete the contract u...

Re: Legal Question - Ameriprise Annuity

Side note...did you also say you purchased a VUL????? Please say no so I don't have to go on an annoying tangent on the evils of a VUL.... haha, Yep, got 6 of those horrible VULs! uggh...luckily, they are all very very early in, less than 6 months, so lose very little by surrendering every one ($30...

Re: Legal Question - Ameriprise Annuity

Tough to say what this is without seeing. Did you fill out an annuity application? It should say "Annuity Application" right across the top. I know you have a 10 day right to inspect the policy and you can cancel within 10 days without any penalty. I suspect this is what you're seeing as ...

Legal Question - Ameriprise Annuity

Hi All, I'm still trying to sort out my Ameriprise mess, as I'm in process of moving out to Vanguard.... (I will post my full profile info/etc to the correct format once I get to the bottom of a few questions I still have) So what I just recently realized was, 6 months or so ago, I had a 401K rolled...

Starting a New Chapter! Moving to VG....

Hi Everyone! So glad I found this board, I only wish I would've spent the time to learn more about Vanguard years ago, it may have saved me from the headache I'm trying to get out of now, Ameriprise! So I want to first start-off by giving a real-quick overview of myself/family, and what we got to wh...
