Re: Why shouldn't I supplement college savings from a Roth?

If I shouldn't use Roth contributions to pull out for a future special project, now i'm wondering do I just tripple my contribution amount to TSP and not start a Roth OR start one and barely increase TSP contribution amount.

I am trying to keep things simple, so the fewer accounts the better.

Currently we’re both contributing to our respective employer’s reti...

Re: Transaction charges on VBINX?

I realized that Lifestrategy growth VASGX is pretty aggressive, but I didn't think anyone would also classify VG balanced index as aggressive just due to the fact that is has 20% more in bonds than the former . . . It's difficult when the purpose of this fund isn't that clearly defined I guess . . ....

Re: Transaction charges on VBINX?

Not that the answer is going to have an effect on my decision , but i'm curious . . . . if i made my own balanced portfolio with either some vanguard or spartan stock index / int'l stock index / bond index versus going with something like Vanguard Balanced Index or Vanguard Lifestrategy Growth; does...

So http://news.morningstar.com/classroom2/course.asp?docId=2871&page=3&CN=COM has been very informative for a novice like me. So i thought fund turn-over rates were just used to kind of asses how often the fund managers tend to re-strategize and such but not I'm seeing how they h...

Re: Transaction charges on VBINX?

So i will include a little bit more of 'total picture' info in order to get some broad advice Gosh the need for me to get all my accounts in order and so that I actually understand what is going on is high right now. But my timing is horrible , it's tough to do while in the middle of a deployment to...

Transaction charges on VBINX?

So before I ask my rookie questions, I’ll give an unnecessary summary of my overall financial situation. So I’m 27, and up until now all of my discretionary funds have been going to pay off my household’s combined college loan debt of about 50K and paying off cars in entirety, and that goal has fina...
