Re: Houston Chapter

Apparently the Houston chapter no longer meets.

I would be very interested in starting a new chapter if others are of a like mind

Re: Requesting help with a Federal Withholding question

From what I know, it is the investment income (not so much dividends/interest/cap gains so much as it is lease income) that is causing the shortfall in taxes paid in. I do not know why his CPA hasn't at least had them sending in some quarterly payments. He should probably change CPAs, but apparently...

Requesting help with a Federal Withholding question

A friend of mine recently had his CPA tell him that he is under-withholding for FIT purposes. Per the CPA, the federal withholding needs to be increased by $425 per semi-monthly paycheck in order to not owe anything for tax year 2013. My friend (seriously - this isn't me) is over 60, but plans to wo...

Re: 1st Birthday Present

I wanted to thank you all for your replies and ideas. I very much like the suggestions of writing the letter to her, of buying that day's newspaper, and buying a nice bottle of wine that can age for 20 years. And the video of the smash cake should be a blast! These are all things that will be cheris...

Re: 1st Birthday Present

BBL....we are on the same page with you on this one! I can't wait to see her destroy the cake we give her. Luckily, it will be my wife's turn for bath night duties on that day!! MN...I think we will do as you suggest for the 529 contributions on the birthdays following this one. My mom is looking fo...

1st Birthday Present

Strange question perhaps, but the wife and I are having a terrible time deciding on a 1st birthday gift for our little girl. The grandparents and various other family members & friends will deluge us with clothing, toys, stuffed animals etc. so we don't really want to go that route. We want some...

Re: Contributions to an IRA

Sorry for the delay in responding Alan. Thanks for answering my IRA question!

As for our MAGI, it should fall in the range of $95,000-100,000.

Contributions to an IRA

My wife and I want to contribute to our 2012 IRAs. I know we have until April 15 to do this, so we are currently shaking our pockets for loose change to send in. Our situation for 2012 differed from in the past however. My wife did not work at all this past year as she was a stay-at-home mom with ou...

Re: Pay off debt before 529

I have the double whammy here - about to start paying on my wife's student loans in January 2013 and have a 7 month old baby that will go to college one day (we hope). My wife, bless her, is being very adamant about contributing to the babe's college fund. However, I think we should concentrate on k...

Re: Age Gap Retirement Planning

Thanks for the perspective grabiner. I think your point about the age gap at current age levels doesn't impact the situation too much. I do have 2 follow-up questions however: 1) Regarding the use of our 401Ks - when you said that if her plan has better bond choices than my plan, let her hold all of...

Age Gap Retirement Planning

I am new to the forums, but have been reading Mr. Bogle and Mr. Ferri for years. I do not know if this situation has been addressed, but I need some help/ideas with my retirement planning. The main difference for my situation is the gap in the ages of my wife and I. She is 30 and just graduating fro...
