Re: Help with Older Retirees

Most would say invest for the heirs. I always had a concern about that when I was in a similar position. It makes sense but just didn't feel right. It also makes sense to make sure what would make them comfortable - it is their hard earned savings. Thanks Dandy and that's the basic issue. It is the...

Re: Help with Older Retirees

Great points so far and thanks I think they are comfortable with some change given the huge change they just made in their life. But not too much change. The bond fund I need to find out more information but it would be the easiest on them to reinvest. The Templeton Growth has been a very long term ...

They have recently moved into tiered retirement center starting with a senior living situation where they can eventua...

Re: Insurance Settlement and Roth

So thanks to the advice here we are going to open the Roths but now a follow on question. Re: Insurance Settlement and Roth

It's for physical injury and is not taxable. It's a blessing that we had good underinsured coverage and a great adjuster but my advice is to NOT get into a wreck! It's been two years dealing with this and I'm not the one who has the bad wrist. I think she will go back to work in 2015 but we will be ...

Re: Advice on getting Advice

Thank you so much for the responses. Yesterday was a very rainy day and gave me a lot of time to read and research based upon your comments. From that I believe I will continue on my own but make a few changes: I'm going to move the Schwab account to Vanguard. This narrows my investment opportunitie...

Re: Advice on getting Advice

I'm sorry, I my question was rambling and I think I can make it more succinct: What are the best options for obtaining advice concerning retirement planning?: Services offered by Vanguard (online, AUM, or their tailored plan service) Services offered by broker (Schwab) Local CFP/broker Just do it my...

Advice on getting Advice

I just turned 50 last month and after getting over the shock of it I started hearing Neidermeyer ask me what I was going to do with t...
