Does anyone actually know someone who retired, never took out more than 4 or 5% of the original portfolio each year (adjusted for inflation), and actually ran out of money before they ran out of life? Anyone? Bueller? I think Alpo Risk is a whole lot lower than many compulsive savers imagine it is....

Re: Help at a transition point.

If you want it to remain private, perhaps you shouldn't post it in an internet forum http://www.bogleheads.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=124884&p=1832147#p1832147 : I also invest with two Roths, an IRA and a cash account. One of the Roths has some options availability. Overall this money is ...

Re: 2 Residents, a ton of debt, and a hope to retire one day

Read the other active thread right now for an example of a doc who doesn't seem to "feel" the weight of his debt. You can learn something from his errors. He's 2.5 years out of residency, owes $52K on his car and another $70K on a lot he hasn't even built a house on, in addition to all th...

Re: Naming a Vanguard Account

The way to change username at Vanguard is to re-register for online access. At the login page click on "Register for website access" and follow the steps. I did this a couple of weeks ago and have had no issues.

Re: Cost of having an attorney draft a will

Does that mean one can potentially draft all the documents via Legal Zoom & execute self proving affidavits on our own without an attorney? How would one go about doing that if that's the case? How did you do your will Geoff? That is my understanding. I had a traveling notary come to our house ...

Re: Cost of having an attorney draft a will

Also most states permit simplified probate proceedings for wills that are drafted by an attorney and are executed in his presence. After the will is signed by the testator and witnesses the witnesses and attorney sign an attestation affirming that they witnessed the signing of the will and that the...

Re: $600M Powerball Jackpot - take cash or annuity?

If you don't buy a ticket, you have a 100% probability of having $2 on Sunday morning. If you do buy a ticket, you have a 100,000,000:1 or so probability of not having that $2 on Sunday morning. Keith The odds of having the $2 on Sunday are significantly better than that. Per the Powerball website,...

Re: Employer rules retirement contribution deposits. Advice?

I'm not trying to justify the employer here, only to provide some additional information. When I searched for the topic the outer limit guideline for employers was described as 15 business days, not calendar days.

Re: Question for Obstructionist Drivers

I think the above point is that driving 5 miles per hour over the speed limit is illegal in all states, not the car's position on the road.
