Re: Umbrella insurance with negative net worth

I bought a policy when I was in a similar position as you and recommend it. You'll likely have to increase your auto liability though.

Re: Broke New Doctor Needs New Car! How?

P. 80, "best and worst used cars." Under $10,000, for "Small Cars," they like the Pontiac Vibe 2009; I had a 2004 Vibe and it was a great car. The gas mileage was great and there is a lot of cargo room with the back seat folded down. They also come in an AWD version which could ...

Re: New Doctor: Rent or Buy Home in Chicago?

Rent. Don't even think about buying. You'll be way too busy to want to deal with the issues of owning a home. My wife insisted we buy during residency and it was a huge mistake.

Re: Portfolio Critique and Advice Request

Thank you Duckie and Occupier for the advice.

@Duckie, The 403b is with my current employer and can be rolled over when changing jobs, although that's not likely to happen anytime soon.

Re: Broke New Doctor Needs New Car! How?

Congrats on graduating from med school. Now the real work begins!

You might want to look for a mid-90s Camry. Those things are bulletproof. We bought one at the start of residency and sold it for a few hundred less than we paid three years later.

Re: help with minivan decision please

We have a 2005 Sienna XLE with 102K (bought it in 2008 with 51K) and haven't had any issues. We also test drove an Odyssey and liked that as well. I'm sure you'd be satisfied with either. The main reason we went with a Sienna over the Odyssey was due to the location of the power sliding door button.

Portfolio Critique and Advice Request

My 403b and 457 recently changed a few investment options and I'm thinking changing some elections. I've read through many threads and based my current portfolio on others that I've seen on this forum but would appreciate any and all advice. I have pretty thick skin so fire away! Thanks, Dean Emerge...

Re: Nissan Murano vs. Acura RDX vs. ??

The previous RDX had a turbo-4 that apparently got lousy mileage, so they switched to a V-6 for 2013 which uses Honda's system for shutting down some cylinders when cruising to improve mileage. We have a 2007 RDX and get around 15 mpg in town and 20 on the highway. There's not much cargo room but i...

Re: Where And How Do You Carry Your Cell Phone?

I have a HTC One X with a Steinheil Oleophobic screen protector and a Seidio ACTIVE case. I keep it in a Galaxy Note leather pouch in my front pants pocket or cargo pants/shorts side pocket. It's a little overkill but it looks brand new!
