Re: Combine Roth IRA's

Thanks, that makes sense.

I don't currently have enough to invest in an admiral fund (I'd like at least $30,000 so I can go with the 3 fund approach), so it sounds like it won't make a difference now but the sooner I can get $30,000 in one account the better.

Combine Roth IRA's

My wife and I currently each have a separate Roth IRA. I can't contribute the max $5500/yr to both accounts so have just been doing about $3000 in each. I'm now wondering if I would get better long term growth by maxing out one IRA each year. So basically, would it be better to contribute $3000 to each or to contribute $5500 to one and $500 to the other. If the latter, would it make sense to withdraw some of the contributions I've made in order to max out one of them for the current year?

This can probably be figured out with some simple math but I wouldn't know how.

Thanks.

Tracking performance of IRA Rollover

I recently moved my IRA's from Betterment to Vanguard. When I left Betterment, my account was up 17% since I started investing with them. With the recent downward trend, my portfolio is down a few hundred at Vanguard, which isn't actually the case. Is there something at Vanguard or elsewhere where I can track what my actual gain/loss is?

Re: Switching from Betterment

Thanks for the advice. I think I will just go with those target funds until I have enough to qualify for the Admiral Shares.

When you switched from Betterment, did you do an account transfer or just withdraw from Betterment and do a rollover into Vanguard? I read Betterment used to have an outrageous transfer fee that they got rid of but can't find any current info on a fee.

All my Investments are currently at Betterment, split about 50/50 between mine and my wife's totaling ~17000. Of that, there is ~6000 in each Roth, and ~2500 in each Traditional. New annua...
