Re: Vacation in Europe - Questions

jeffyscott,

What resources did you use for searching/booking your accommodations? Others have already provided some excellent resources in this thread, but I wasn't sure if you were using something that hasn't been mentioned yet. Have a wonderful trip and thanks for commenting!

Re: Vacation in Europe - Questions

Excellent advise everyone. It's reassuring to hear that usually the less expensive hotels in a given area are nice, clean, and safe. I was hoping there would be enough time to spend a solid 3-4 days in Budapest and then spend the remaining 1.5 weeks in Croatia (including the national/state parks the...

Re: Vacation in Europe - Questions

Other than the areas we've discussed visiting, I haven't mapped out the route we would take to incorporate them all. Ideally, I'd like to use public transportation as much as possible (trains). It's a bit overwhelming to look at a map and see other countries/cities close enough that all of a sudden ...

Vacation in Europe - Questions

My wife and I are considering going on a 2 week vacation in the early fall 2013 or early spring 2014. We're hoping to incorporate Croatia, Budapest, and depending on time Prague and Krakow (Poland). I've never been to Europe and had a few questions. What is the average amount, per person, that it wo...

Re: Vanguard Roth IRA Consideration

Johm221122, From what you've suggested, how does the rebalancing work? I'm familiar with rebalancing when they're all under one umbrella and it's easy to just transfer funds, but I'm less familiar with how it could be accomplished when investments are spread out between a 401(k) and a Roth. I'm some...

Holding Individual Stocks in Vanguard Roth IRA?

I am planning on setting up a Roth IRA but was curious about purchasing/holding individual stocks within a Roth. Is this possible with a Vanguard Roth IRA? What are the benefits/drawbacks of doing so? Any and all information will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Vanguard Roth IRA Consideration

Thanks Johm.

Would the allocation for the 401K between two you mentioned be 80/20?, or would that be too risky?

Re: Vanguard Roth IRA Consideration

While I'm seeking recommendations for Roth IRA's and my 401(k) investments, I have another question: What is the best company to go through for purchasing individual stocks as part of your Roth IRA portfolio? Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Vanguard Roth IRA Consideration

I currently have $21,244 invested in my 401K at the moment, 100% in a target fund (Schwab Index Ret Trust 2045). 10 months ago, in order to catch up, I upped my savings rate to 17%. So I'm putting about $7,500 a year into my 401K. Like most people, I would love to retire early (if possible) and comf...

Vanguard Roth IRA Consideration

I have been thinking about opening a Roth IRA with Vanguard. I just turned 30 and thought it would be a great gift to myself. I obviously misunderstood, but I didn't realize that in order to invest in VBMFX, VTSMX, and VGTSX, it would cost $3K each (total of $9K). I, for some reason, had thought I c...

Retirement Saving Question

I've got a basic question. Should I split my retirement savings between contributing to both a 401(k) and a Roth IRA or should I focus my savings into the 401(k) only? I'm having trouble trying to figure out if it will be more valuable to have a larger amount of money compounding (pre-tax) versus ha...

How much to contribute to 401(k) vs. Roth?

Currently i'm contributing 17% to my 401(K), but I'm strongly considering opening a Roth IRA with my wife. Two questions: 1) Can you jointly open a Roth? 2) I'm looking for some advice for how much to contribute to both a 401K and a Roth. I intend to contribute, at a minimum, enough to get all compa...

0% Financing - Adverse effects on Credit Score?

I just purchased a new bed and couch. They offered financing for 0%. I have the money to pay it off immediately, but thought it might be beneficial to space out the payment over a year. Will doing this adversely affect my credit score in any way?

401K Confusion

First, some basic information that will help to understand my situation and tailor any advice. I'm 29 years old. Started a little late with investing in my 401K, but I'm trying to play catch up. I have about almost $16K invested in my 401K at the moment divided up: 84% in a target fund (Schwab Index...
