Re: How do I value my business?

I don't think we have enough info. We don't know how much actual industrial space you have, or the complexity of the process and equipment. Does the process require a doctorate to get right? Is there a real process or is it mainly a blending/compounding operation? Where are we in the life cycle of ...

How do I value my business?

Disclosure: I've changed some things around to protect my anonymity. Background: I'm part owner in a business. We are looking to sell this business in the next few years and we aren't really sure how much our business should be valued at. We are a sole source manufacturer of a very specialized chemi...

Re: Savings Restoration Plan

It's a well established Fortune 400 company and one of the industry leaders. I believe the whole industry would need to go under for my company to go bankrupt. Back in 2008, it was believed (by Wall Street) that there was a chance of this, but we actually emerged stronger. What would happen if I was...

Re: Savings Restoration Plan

It's deferred comp. The marketing materials that they sent threw me off.

I'm in my mid-30's and I max out on my 401K and IRAs. Is it worth it to do this as well? I'm not sure what criteria I should use or how I should view this.

Savings Restoration Plan

I just received notice from my company that I'm eligible to participate in their 'Savings Restoration Plan'. There wasn't a lot of information passed along with this, so I'm not sure what it is or if I should participate. I'm assuming I should because it's offers some sort of tax deferral to my 401K...

Re: Investment and 401k Advice

Make sure you save enough for a good down payment before you buy your house. Taxes in NNJ are brutal and they completely kill your cash flow. And make sure you buy something for the long term. I bought too early and now need to get into something bigger, but I'm drowning in my mortgage. Go Knights! ...

Tutoring Business: Help with taxes

My wife has a home school/tutoring business for children with disabilities. She works with some of her clients as a part time worker through an agency where she receives a W9. Another part of her income comes from independent contract work she does where she receives a 1099. The final part of her in...

Re: Europe Travel from paris initial start, help

I've been to most of the places you are visiting. A few things: 1. Try to fit in a day and go to Normandy. IMO, one of the best places to visit in all of Europe if you like WW2 history. 2. Rent a car in Paris and go around the Arc de Triomphe a few times (make sure you get the insurance). 3. One day...

Re: Portfolio Rebalance Question

Thanks for the input. I don't contribute to my wife's traditional IRA because I like the idea of putting half of my money in a tax deferred account and paying taxes on the other half. This hedges against the unknown tax rate in 25 years when I retire. I'm probably over-thinking this, but it helps me...

Re: Need help with choosing funds in my 401K

That's actually great advise. I never really thought of it that way. It really solves 2 problems for me. 1. It allows me to minimize my costs as much as possible. 2. Each account becomes its own asset class which makes it really easy for me to know what my asset allocation is at any given time (I wo...

Re: Am I financially ready to buy this house?

"We currently live rent free in an apartment own by family. They have been very very kind to us and I don't think they're in a hurry to see us leave. So we don't actually HAVE TO buy a property." If you don't have to, don't. Keep saving and buy a house that you and your family will live i...

Re: Never Want To Take Out A Loan Again.

Sorry to come to the table late. I never post to this site. I come here and read the advice and try to relate it to myself. Some of the stuff is not really applicable, but a lot of it I can incorporate into my life and the way that I live it. I was once a big spender. I would go out to restaurants a...
